Be advised I’m not a programmer, but I can follow simple instructions! My host in VE3 is capable of changing Menu settings in the radio but hasn’t had to touch the radio since we set it up in Nov 2019. If you want to try some experiments with CW just let me know. I’ll install wfview on my host computer and see how it goes with WSJT-X. I’m about 13,000 km from my transceiver, which likely makes me a worst case scenario for remote control. I believe N1MM contest logger sends text to the 7300’ keyer or to the Winkeyer.

I rarely use the Winkeyer because the 7300’s internal keyer is good enough for me. The Winkeyer connects to the 7300 via the Key jack, so there are two methods of sending Morse Code for us remote operators to send Morse Code to a 7300. It can also use a Winkeyer, which can take ASCII text and translate it into Morse Code. There may be an intermediate step (or two) that I don’t know about. I don’t know if the internal keyer accepts ASCII text input or not. You can also save a dozen or so short messages for casual contest operation. It provides a CW Terminal that lets you type in plain text, which it uses to control the 7300’s internal keyer. I’m retired and live in Thailand and my radio is in VE3. I should tell you that my IC-7300 and I are located 12 time zones away from each other. KComm will automatically pick up any frequency changes made by CW Skimmer.Sorry, I didn’t realize Roeland is a developer! My apologies to Roeland! I literally found out about wfview an hour or two before I posted my first message. If the call has been worked before (contest duplicate) then it is colored gray.

Simple setup and UI Setting up this application doesnt take a long time, nor special attention, thanks to the fact that it contains only familiar options. KComm checks this call against the log and sends a reply to Skimmer that allows it to color code a call if it is a new country or some other type of entity (prefix, zone). CW Skimmer is a panoramic multi-channel CW decoder that lets you decode and analyze data in a user-friendly environment.

This is not essential but avoids conflict if CW Skimmer and KComm both try to use the soundcard at the same time. Then configure KComm and CW Skimmer to connect to the virtual serial port instead. Use it to create a splitter in which the real serial port is the one connected to your transceiver. This is a freeware tool that lets you create various virtual devices. It is not normally possible for two programs to access a serial port at the same time under Windows. To avoid false spots it is also recommended to use Aggressive call validation. To avoid this, select Do not send callsigns without CQ on the Telnet tab. Note: CW Skimmer may spot the call of the station the one you are receiving is working. It also allows KComm to highlight calls in CW Skimmer to show new countries or prefixes or stations previously worked.
